Charity Bowls Day On Sunday 25th September 2011, the Coral Bay Bowls Club held a Charity Bowls Day to raise funds for SSAFA Branch. The venue was Neo’s Sports Bar, Peyia. The day started with a “Spider”. All the players and the SSAFA Branch Publicity Officer paid a €1 fee and stood around the green with one foot in the gully. On the bell, they all rolled a wood into the middle and tried to get closest to the Jack. The winner received a bottle of rum! Then the contest started in earnest and while balls were flying up and down the green, raffle tickets were being sold with great vigour. After a break for a sandwich lunch provided by Stavros Pantelides, the owner of Neo Sport’s Bar, it was back with the games. Unbelievably, the last game had to be abandoned because of rain! After a break to work out the winners and runners up it was then time for prize giving and the raffle. The Winners and runner up prizes were presented by Stavros Pantelides. When all the awards and raffle were over, Stavros and his daughter presented a cheque for €768 which was the proceeds of the day to Drew Elgeti for SSAFA Branch.  Also at the event on behalf of SSAFA was the Deputy Branch Publicty Officer, Phil Sked and local Case Worker Richard Hughes. During the day, a lady that Richard had assisted, told him that in thanks for his help she had held a collection recently and raised over €400 for SSAFA Branch, which would be forthcoming shortly. SSAFA Branch would like to thank Ken Pee and Fran Davies from the Coral Bay Bowls Club for volunteering to run this event for SSAFA. We would like to thank Stavros Pantelides for the use of the Neo Sport’s Bar and his staff keeping everyone fed and watered in his fantastic restaurant. We would finally like to thank the Horizon Group for sponsoring the event.
