Branch Secretary: Mrs Christine Mathews The role of Secretary of the Branch is central to its overall coordination and effectiveness. The Secretary is responsible for organising and running the Branch Office and initially deals with all incoming enquiries and requests regarding new cases communicated to the Branch. She will then normally contact a case worker and ask them to carry out a home visit or interview the client at an appropriate location. All Form As produced by case workers in Cyprus are sent to the Secretary who then staffs the case, gives it a case number, files the Form A and subsequently forwards the Form A, accompanied by a covering letter, to the relevant service and civilian charities. The Secretary then monitors the progress of each case with the relevant charity and informs the respective case worker whether charitable assistance is available and to what extent. In the event of a service or other charity providing financial assistance, she will then liaise with the Branch Treasurer and authorise payment to the respective client. A similar procedure is also carried out with those clients who qualify for annuities, for which regular, annual updates are normally required. The Secretary is also responsible for maintaining the records of all office holders and caseworkers, and ensuring that Central Office is informed of all changes affecting members of the Branch. She is also responsible for collating the 5, 10 and 15 year awards to ensure volunteers are suitably recognised for their time dedicated to SSAFA. In addition to the Secretary ensuring that appropriate case records are maintained, she also coordinates and collates the annual returns to Central Office, completing and presenting the annual Branch returns to the Chairman prior to their submission to Central Office. The Secretary is also be responsible for presenting an annual report at the AGM and, along with the Training  Coordinator, ensuring that Branch training is both current and relevant to benefit the Branch’s volunteers. She will also assist, as necessary, with fund raising and other Branch activities.
