Community Volunteers Community Volunteers are skilled befrienders offering confidential low key emotional and practical support to the Service Community in Cyprus. Volunteers come from the Service Community; servicemen men and women, family members and expatriates who have an interest in this kind of work. The amount of time they give to the scheme depends on them and they are selected for the qualities they have as individuals. Some volunteers are already very experienced in various professional fields but others have very little formal experience or training but are keen to build on their existing life skills. Community Volunteers bring invaluable experience, knowledge support and familiarity of Service Life and of course their time, which is essential. The guiding principle is that volunteers can support people needing help and skilled befriending is an invaluable resource and examples where volunteer have provided support to the Service Community in Cyprus;  Play therapy in the home for children with ‘special needs’  Support where families are going through difficult transitional periods such as marital difficulties or irregular occupancies.  Visiting isolated and lonely families in Cyprus where a parent is away or the extended family is in the UK or elsewhere  Befriending those who need a listening ear and perhaps a shoulder to cry on  Supporting the bereaved where appropriate    Practical tasks such as support for medical or hospital appointments  Community projects and fund raising activities for the Charity For more information or to offer your services as a Community Volunteer please contact: In- Service Volunteer Co-ordinator on +357 2596 3908
