Brothers In Arms Concert
On Saturday 8th May 2010, five SSAFA Branch volunteers were stood outside Pissouri Amphitheatre
in Hi-Vis jackets or carrying SSAFA buckets.
The aim of the night was to catch all the music fans who were attending the Brothers In Arms
Concert. The group are a Dire Straits tribute act who had agreed to let SSAFA do a collection before
and after the show. It was also agreed that if SSAFA helped with car parking and directing traffic,
there would be a percentage of the takings on the night heading towards the Branch bank account.
So at 17.00 the three Andrews - Noyes, Elgeti & Frame donned their jackets and Jackie Noyes and
Lyn Smith took up position at the main gates.
By 19.00 everyone had arrived, eaten their picnics on the Amphitheatre steps and were watching the
start of the show.
As free entry into the concert was part of the deal the SSAFA team moved inside and enjoyed the show. It wasn’t long before
the dancing started and even Branch Chairman Andrew Noyes couldn’t resist bopping along to the music complete with his
Hi-Vis vest!
All too soon the concert ended and the SSAFA team were in their positions ready to help all the concert goers leave the stadium
with as little cash as possible in their pockets.
Dire Straits fans proved to be a very generous bunch of Ladies and Gentlemen as at the end of the night the buckets were holding
€584.43! The next day concert promoter handed over another €200 for the car parking, so the evening ended with a grand
total of €784.43 and the offer of the same deal at other events later in the year.
