Young brothers from the UK, Casey and Theo Dawkins-Goddard, have received a SSAFA BFC Young Achiever Award for their courage and inspiration in making great strides when faced with educational and development challenges during their time in Cyprus.

In the summer of 2014 the Dawkins-Goddard family were posted back to the UK from Cyprus, which meant that they were unable to attend the Awards ceremony held at the Officers’ Mess, Episkopi, British Forces Cyprus in March 2015.

Flight Sergeant Steve Graham, who was previously a Community Volunteer during his tour in Cyprus, is now a SSAFA Community Volunteer Coordinator based in Wiltshire.  Steve liaised with the boy’s parents and school, Waterwells Primary Academy and pre-school in Gloucester, and was able to arrange for a special presentation at an assembly in their new school.

The boys were unaware of the Awards until they were called forward for the presentation, so it came as a pleasant surprise for them as they were cheered on by a very proud Mum, Dad and sister.

SSAFA is now preparing for the next Young Achievers Awards and has recently launched a ‘Design a Poster’ competition.

SSAFA is inviting children and young people between the ages of 5-18 based in the British Forces Community to put their art and design abilities to good use to produce a poster to promote the next annual SSAFA Young Achiever Awards 2015.

This year’s award categories are;

• Sports & Adventure Training
• Fundraising / Charitable Work
• Music
• Group Activities
• Young Carer
• Medical Adversity
• Educational/Academic Achievement
• Community Support

The closing date for entries is Monday 29 June 2015.
